I’m new to bookkeeping and I was wondering if anyone out there has
experience using the program Simply Accounting 2010?
Please respond to this email. (email address is omitted for
privacy protection) I will then post my questions about this program.
Thanks.
The Simply Accounting 2010 has many new enhancements and the program
itself can become challenging if you are not familiar with the previous
versions. To get you started with instant answers to your immediate
question, I suggest the following website link to the Community Forum.
There is a wealth of knowledge there. They also provide training and
education courses for the program.

Have you experienced any problems opening up certain ‘companies’ on the
student file? I kept getting an error message telling me the file is
not available.
I take it you are referring to the Simply Accounting 2010 Manual course
that provides the numerous fictitious companies to work within the chapters
of the course (advise me if otherwise). Often locating files can be
performed a few ways depending how your computer is set up and where the
course data was stored onto your computer.
Computers and computer programs/software are far from bullet proof and
as time moves forward, so does development of computers, computer
programs and software. As result of that, patches and upgrades run into
clashing files already existing on your current computer. Enter the
words “GLITCH”, “TECKNO STRESS” and “BRAIN-DRAIN”!
The good news is that almost all issues can be resolved fairly easy if
you are tech-savvy enough and research for answers on the internet. I
recommend that you start with the forum below for your Simply Accounting
2010 Manual course issues and if they cannot answer your questions, then
ask them to direct you to a website that can.

I own a small catering business and I have some experience working with
bookkeeping. My question to anyone out there is what program (s)/
software is the best for a small business and won’t take a lot of time
to setup from a home office? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
We have been working with Simply Accounting for 14 years now and have
watched if develop to a world wide accounting software program. Over
the last 14 years, (I have training in Quick Books as well but prefer
not to use it) numerous associates have stated they prefer Simply
Accounting over Quick Books. However, clients who have only ever used
Quick Books have never really experienced any difference and are
comfortable with the Quick Books program. Personally, I prefer
Simply Accounting 2005-2009 with the Classic View because we did not
have to get upgrades, downloads, updates etc., which provoked more
computer technical issues. But, we are forced to evolve with the times
and enhancements of these programs.
Would you advise a small business owner to do their own books or would it
be beneficial to invest in an accountant and / or bookkeeper? Please
respond to this site not my personal email account. Thanks
This question has a lot of variable answers. If you are a sole
proprietor and have grown your business with only yourself being involved,
then no, you do not really need a bookkeeper or an accountant. This is
usually the case for a small home based business with income less than
$30,000.00 (so HST or GST is not applicable) that does not involve
‘over-the-border’ sales/inventory. As long as you are comfortable using
your bookkeeping software program, keep a solid paper trail for CRA to
follow and are willing to research answers to all your questions, then a
bookkeeper or accountant is not really required for your small business.
